Chippping in always changes futures [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 07:25:am
Chipping in and doing ones bit counts
"IT'S BACK."
"That's how The Age announced news we've been
dreading to hear: Gunns is close to finding off
shore investors for its controversial pulp mill
in Tasmania and may begin construction soon.
Gunns just won't give up on this destructive mill,
so far together we have foiled their every attempt.
We've fought too hard to give up now. Without any
international finance, or funding from a overseas
joint venture partner, the pulp mill will indeed
be history.
That's why we need to pull out all stops and publish
a massive newspaper ad this week in the European
Financial Times: the paper we know hits every bank
in Europe." This ad below needs our urgent attention
and input... So get involved and make a difference
linkwww.getup.org.au/campaign/NoPulpMill&id=622
"Last year when we showed Gunns' long-time banker ANZ
the weight of opposition against the mill, they pulled
out. In the spirit of fairness we sent an advance copy
of this ad to all banks considering financing the mill
to give them a chance to declare otherwise.
Within days, three of the four main contenders have told
us they will not finance the mill. We know this ad works.
But to stop the remaining contenders we need to show the
weight of public opinion against this project.
Thanks to efforts from all of us, no Australian bank will
touch this project. This ad, hitting the desks of every
financier currently contemplating giving the green light
to a project we thought long-dead, will no doubt send
shock waves around the European finance community."
Lets chip away and be part of a long term solution,
Don't ask what others are doing for the world
ask ones self what one is doing for the world??

Walk for a sustainable future [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 05:31:pm
You're invited to...
The 2008 Melbourne Walk Against Warming
This Saturday November 15th - 1pm
Federation Square, Melbourne
At 1pm this Saturday November 15th, GetUp
is inviting US to join thousands of very
concerned citizens in Federation Square
to demonstrate that, twelve months since
last year's federal election
We all still care about climate change and
expect our Prime Minister to do more to
reduce Australia's greenhouse emissions.
When our politicians are sitting around the table
in a few weeks trying to decide how ambitious they
can be with Australia's essential targets to reduce
greenhouse emissions. We need them to remember the
Walk Against Warming.
When Prime Minister Kevin Rudd watches the Saturday
night news, we need him to see images of thousands
of Australians on the streets calling for a new,
prosperous green economy filled with renewable energy
and green-collar jobs.
We all need our faces to be amongst those people along
with our friends, family and neighbors. Please register
your attendance for Saturday here, and we'll send you a
free reminder text message before the rally:
www.getup.org.au/campaign/WalkAgainstWarming
&id=421?dc=548,86439,1
Clean energy, strong climate targets, and a safe future.
It was worth voting for, it's worth campaigning for; and
it's certainly worth coming out this Saturday for.
See you on Saturday - 1pm at Federation Square

Changing climates changing paradigms [Vita's Guests] -

OUR Treasury have just crunched the numbers
and declared that GENUINE action on climate
change is affordable let alone imperative my

We have a very real chance of achieving the
bold action necessary to get us one step
closer to saving our climate.
But we're not there yet. You can tip the balance -

Prime Minister is on the edge of a decision -

industries.

reduction targets in less than four weeks.

"Join over 70% of Australians, and every State &

against same s-x couples.
Click here to help ensure Australians aren't treated
as second-class citizens purely on the basis of their
s-xual orientation.
www.getup.org.au/campaign/EqualBeforeTheLaw&id=29
Last year a GetUp nationwide poll made politicians
and pundits sit up and take notice - over 70% of
Australians want same s-x* couples to have the same
legal rights as de facto heterosexual couples.
A GetUp petition was then launched to tell politicians
the time had come to remove this unfairness. Finally,
after more than a year of intense lobbying, the Senate
are debating laws that remove this absurd outdated
discrimination.
The latest word from Canberra is that some politicians
who want to keep this discrimination will stall the bill
once again with amendments. That's why we'll be walking
the halls of Parliament with this petition in hand to
convince our pollies to get the job done.Add your name
to the petition above we'll be carrying to make it too
large to ignore.
Those politicians who want to keep the discrimination,
or water it down with amendments meaning same s-x couples
will not be entirely equal before the law, need to know
the community demands an immediate end to this unfairness.
This petition will send that message that now is the
time to write this discrimination out of our laws.
When the weight OUR opinion is effectively expressed,
politicians will have to follow.
We've been busy behind the scenes on this issue, liaising
with key decision makers, writing letters to every MP and
Senator and visiting politicians face-to-face to take ALL
our concerns directly to Canberra.
Now it's time for our final push. We need everybody who
believes in equality and love for ALL to convince the
lingering fearful doubters that no excuses remain for
not seeing the truth about love....We must redefine and
revalue their rights This discrimination against same
s.x relationships must end NOW..... add to the final
figure we present to politicians before they vote!!
Your signature could be the difference..There is majority
support for equal rights extending across all demographics,
across every region, across every political party in the
nation. Tell the politicians it's time they caught up to
the people that voted them in. With our help, we can travel
further down the path to greater equality for ALL of us."

?Emotions unite and divide the worlds in which we

They save our lives, enabling quick action in all

"The Murray-Darling is at breaking point - literally dying of
thirst.
The Murray-Darling Basin accounts for over 40% of Australia's
agricultural production and grows almost a third of all our
food. It's Australia's food bowl. We can not survive without
this mighty river system!!
It's time to implement urgent solutions to save it - as things
heat up in the coming months, the Coorong Lakes at the Murray's
mouth may even dry up completely before summer's end.
Click here to help save the Murray-Darling before we turn our
nation's food bowl into dust bowl:
linkwww.getup.org.au/campaign/BuyMeARiver/399
We've spoken to scientists, environmentalists and farmers, and
Learnt there are three things our Federal Government must do,
right now, if the mighty Murray is to flow again:
Recover and release 500 gigalitres of water into the river
system by the end of the year, and 4000 gigalitres overall
to prevent our food bowl turning into a dust bowl.
Create an emergency Interim Basin management plan, including
a focus on the Coorong and Lower Lakes. This could be done
in a matter of weeks, as a precursor to establishing a truly
independent authority that is not held to ransom by State
governments' veto power.
Establish a national freshwater reserve system to protect
rivers, wetlands and estuaries of high value to the river.
As a first step, urgently intervene to save our Murray River
Red Gums, the river's "green lungs" suffering from State
inaction.
Everyday Australians can send a vital message of urgency to
the current Federal Government that we need to do more, and
now.
Please get active and Click on the site above to sign the petition
we must Save OUR liquid gold Murray-Darling:
The Senate is holding an inquiry today in Canberra, hearing
testimony from scientists on just how serious the situation
has become. Just 2 days ago, scientists gave evidence that
use of water across the Basin needs to be halved below the
current cap.
A decisive statement from the Australian community now
could tip the scales and achieve the urgent action needed
by our State and Federal governments to keep our rivers
flowing. More than just a national icon. We must act and
take a stand today for the sake of Australia's food bowl
and the next generations survival.

Garnauts's future our future [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 08:54:am
We must replenish the source for our future
BE one of the majority of Australians that see
that we urgently need our country to cut our
greenhouse pollution!
Most Australians don't have time to read Professor Garnaut's
shocking 600-page climate report, so we've created a quick
clip that is succinct. What it means for Australia and what
it means for ALL OF US.
www.getup.org.au/campaign/ClimateActionNow/361
Garnaut is already under fire from a "scare campaign" being
waged by the polluting industries' lobby groups & the Federal
Opposition. That is why it's so important that we pick a good
climate solution from a bad one.
The GetUp community has spoken out strongly on this issue
in the past, because we know that solving climate change is
a top priority for Australia. We marched for it, at the
'Walk Against Warming' rallies.
We voted for it, in last year's election. We all signed
petitions for it over 100,000 calling for strong emission
reduction targets. We take action in our daily lives for
it too consuming less, saving energy, using less water,
and recycling.
If we go silent now, the Opposition and the industries
campaigning for a weak emissions trading scheme that
protects their profits rather than the climate, will win
the debate ahead of the government's upcoming Green Paper
on climate.
After you've seen the clip, make your voice heard too -
and armed with our Information Sheet write a letter to
the editor of your local newspaper.
The Garnaut Review found that Australia will be hit
hard by climate change. If we do nothing, our grandkids
will be living in a very different Australia, one where
agriculture in the Murray Darling Basin has all but ended,
the Great Barrier Reef has been destroyed, snow-based
tourism in Australia is no longer viable, 5.5 million
Australians will be exposed to Dengue fever.
That's why it's important that you understand the climate
solutions being proposed to solve the crisis ahead as the
PM looks to the Australian public in formulating his
response to Garnaut on July 16th.
Be part of maintaining for our future

ELBOW ROOM presents a sparkling new adaptation of the
novel that lodged its author?s name in the Western
psyche forever.
Bratislava, Central Europe 1870. Severin ? 25, artistic,
born into wealth has the world at his feet, but no love
to inspire him, until he encounters an artist greater
than himself.
Wanda?s canvas is the human soul. Her tools are beauty,
desire, and degradation. Severin will be her masterpiece.
VENUS IN FURS inspired the diagnosis of a whole new
category of sexual perversion. Since the 1800s,
masochism has largely shrugged off its unsavoury
reputation, with a kind of underground ?glamour?.
Today it has well and truly been embraced by the
mainstream, its ubiquity obvious in the burgeoning
popularity of all forms of fetishistic entertainment,
particularly the recent resurgence of burlesque.
In revisiting the original text, Elbow Room brings
to the stage the source of an entire genre of sexual
gratification and entertainment in a timely reminder
of the continuing influence of Sacher-Masoch?s novel.
Neal Harvey?s stage adaptation focuses, not on the
implements of pain and pleasure that Wanda and Severin
employ on each other, but on their consequences.
As socially acceptable ?definitions? of words like
?couple? and ?relationship? change and new technologies
affect the way people interact sexually and emotionally,
just where does our emotional responsibility towards
other human beings begin and end?
Through the timeless interactions of these two lovers,
this stage adaptation of VENUS IN FURS asks questions
about the roles of dependence, mutuality, love and trust
in relationships today.

Imagining love in the "Good Country" [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 01:01:pm
The Preferred Play Company is proud to present
OUR COUNTRY?S GOOD
by timberlake wertenbaker
Based on the novel 'The Playmaker" by
Thomas Keneally
Actress/director GLENDA LINSCOTT (Prisoner, and
Murder Call) brings her ensemble company to the
Fringe 2008. Ten fabulous young actors, graduates
from the Victorian College of the Arts. They remount
their acclaimed 2006 production. Young actors who
are at the peak of their training fit, athletic, and
very spunky and give us a passionate production.
Highly physical and compelling, it is described as a
beautiful piece of theatre.
It was a new colony, a new beginning. Supplies for all
things were running out.. A military in revolt and many
convicts choosing to risk certain death by escaping into
the unknown rather than suffer the chronic hardships of
the new penal colony.
A young Lieutenant, Ralph Clark offers to put on a play
to celebrate the King?s birthday. His cast was a motley
bunch of pickpockets, thieves, whores and a hangman.
Will the performance rival that of London?s David Garrick?
Will his lead actress be hanged before she can take the
stage? Will he overcome his fear and loathing and find
love?
OUR COUNTRY?S GOOD is a story of the imagination, of love,
and the redemptive power of theatre.
What the Critics are saying?
The performances delivered by the Preferred Play Company ?
are undeniably very good.
CAMERON ENGLAND
What the audiences are saying?
When the play ended, I couldn't get myself to go
backstage to compliment the performers. I wanted
to continue LIVING their roles as I have
in Our Country's Good. Not just 'good' but FANTASTIC.
I was there with them, in 1789 when Captain Arthur
Phillip (Governer General of NSW) came to Australia.
I was with them ALL THE TIME. Not once did I feel I
was watching a play.
Director Glenda Linscott and her select ensemble company
are tangible and pulsating. GO SEE IT... at least once!
[posted by BRAVO]
A must see. Don't miss it. There is SO MUCH on offer
here at the Fringe, but what to see? How to decide?
When to go with all other things happening? Well, we
were certainly very happy with our choice.
Some fantastic directorship and not some, but ALL ACTORS
have come to life. They were absolutely divine. Don't
let this one slip through. [posted by ThumbsUp]

Getup and reduce ennissons [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 08:42:am
Dear friends,
You may have missed it, but the Tasmanian Government
last week unbelievably signed an agreement handing
over Tasmania's forests to the Gunns pulp mill for
the next 20 years. In the very same week Professor
Garnaut warned them of the absolute dire climate
change consequences facing us ALL.
If we don't act now, bulldozers will start clearing
land for the mill that will contribute 2% of Australia's
greenhouse emissions - We're being told we need to
drastically cut our emissions. But unfortunately
Australia's forests were largely left out of Garnaut's
recent interim report.
We have only one opportunity to put them in the picture.
A proper assessment in his impending Climate Change
Report of our native forests' climate change value may
just sink the mill project.
Sign the petition on the Getup site in Vita's quick
or the link below asking Professor Garnaut to examine
the full climate impact of this mill madness and the
logging of Tasmania's native forests:
www.getup.org.au/campaign/DontPulpOurClimate
There's a real risk the Garnaut report won't include a
comprehensive assessment of native forests despite new
research finding the stopping of deforestation a "large,
immediate and perishable opportunity"* to massively reduce
emissions.
Costing out the real value of native forests will not only
prove Tasmania's trees would be better left in the ground
but make this teetering project financially inviable when
Gunns realizes they will have to pay for carbon embedded
in our forests.
Native forests are invaluable sources of carbon storage
and it costs nothing to leave them in the ground. 80% of
the 4.5 million tonnes of wood needed to supply the pulp
mill each year will initially come from Tassie's native
forests - permanently destroying forests that can hold
10-20 times the amount of CO2 than plantations.
A proper assessment of their climate change value will
undoubtedly make the arguments in favor of the mill,
whose climate change impact has never even been assessed,
untenable. Take action to protect nature's lungs before the
bulldozers move in:
Professor Gaurnaut can expose this ill-conceived pulp

Stolen lifes Stolen childhoods [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 03:50:pm
Dear friends,
We've just been told that some elders from the
Kimberly the first members of Australia's aboriginal
Stolen Generations are unable to afford the trip to
Canberra for tomorrows historic apology.
www.jarlmadangah.com/
They have asked us if we can help. Be part of this
historic event, a true moment in Australia's history,
by donating what you can now to make sure they can
are able to hear the healing 'sorry' word in person:
Click on Vita's quick links for the "Getup" site
and then "Help the healing link"
Many of the Stolen Generations have already arrived
in Canberra from all over Australia for Wednesday's
Apology, GetUp members in the capital have now
established a network of over 80 billeters, so
that Aboriginal elders and other members of the
Stolen Generation have somewhere to stay while
there.
(How ironic given it is their earth their spirit)
We have the chance to have a profound impact on
the lives of people who have experienced decades
of pain and anguish.. People who deserve more
than watching the apology on TV (or not all as the
case maybe.)
Help us all with the healing process by helping
them to get to Canberra!!!!
Whether you can give $5 or $500 (it'll cost
about $1000 to get one person there). OUR
contribution will make a real difference,
Any money we raise beyond this urgent appeal,
we'll channel straight to our "Sorry is the
first step" campaign to ensure the apology
becomes the springboard to genuine Indigenous
equality as it should have ALWAYS been.
We've just booked Parliament House lawn to
help commemorate the event with a candle
ceremony. In the 60m x 80m space.
We'll spell out 6000 candles saying "Sorry,is
the first step." We're taking a film crew with
us to interview and record their stories on the
day. OUR actions are helping to make this moment
the truly nation-building one it should be;
Get involved in today to be able to tell our
children you helped make reconciliation a reality.
Thanks for being part of this,
The GetUp team

Living the bigger self [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 10:53:am
We live a world a world of abundance. We sadly
believe our resources are, endless and replaceable
some think even those in their life are replaceable
or even disposable....
This is not the case? We must all learn to love
ourselves, if we are to truly emulate the other...
We can never look outside ourselves for a better
person to love us..We are all as one given we are
living our bigger selves... ?
We must all to learn to consume and replenish the
source/ sauce of our love?If we are to maintain a
sustainable world and a love filled existence..
That is to live an ethical honorable life and to
maintain and ensure a sustainable planet. We must
ALL offer mutual respect & mutual obligation to
the whole.
We must all honor the other, as we would have our
self-honored? We must understand ourself and give
too ourself before we can give to the other
(as an aside the word sustainable is
NOT in Bills Microsoft dictionary Hmmm)!!!

Good W/omen making a difference [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 10:32:am
Part 3 interview with LIZA of Culture Kitchen.
WOMEN'S VOICES USING SOCIAL MEDIA AS A TOOL
Women networking, consuming and producing in
the 21st century...
VITA
How have things changed for bloggers since
the advent of media owned blogging sites?
LIZA
The game has changed, especially in the last
two years.58% of blogs out there may well be
women's blogs Yet if 90% of the traffic is
only going to just 10% of those blogs..
Given that 10% is not only being funded by big
media companies they are also increasingly being
run by men. I question whether that 58% is really
making a difference? A question I have yet to
answer....
VITA ASIDE
I guess to truly assess that question we need to
to look at what the original research is being
based on? What questions are being asked and
who is assessing what is influence? (This
statistic was sourced from PEW research)
Mmmm what data is being assessed to determine
these figures? How far is the reach? On the up
according to "PEW" women's blogging sites have
more longevity than men's. blogging sites..
(See vita's links for "PEW's" research
on that issue under 'USA internet research".
VITA
Liza how has having a blogging website
changed your sense of influence & impacted
on activism by and for women?
LIZA
It has demystified the whole process of
influence building and has shown me how
old habits are hard to break even if you
are a new media whiz. US politics is all
about money as power.
For some reason or another the bloggers
who have taken to this 'reality' are the
people who came out of the 2004 campaign
blogs and most of them are male.
The majority of feminist bloggers in the
USA do not come out of that sphere of
influence They do not fund raise, nor
endorse specific candidates.
In the game of mainstream politics, these
things matter and the influence of feminist
bloggers as a whole is not as dramatic as
the self-described 'netroots."
VITA ASIDE
"Netroots is a recent term coined to describe
political activism organised through blogs
and other online media, including wikis and
social network services." (wikiapedia)
LIZA
Although "Netroots" are a small slice of
the women blogosphere. In particular sites
such as "Riverbend' have highlighted the
cause for Iraqis who are against, the
occupation of her country.
linkriverbendblog.blogspot.com
VITA
Where is her voice now we may well ask?
BLOGHERS INFLUENCE
see my quick links for the BLOGHER site
LIZA
BlogHer is proof, there is a whole world of
women blogging about a whole universe of issues.
The influence of women in technology blogs has
grown dramatically, thanks in part to women like
Mena Trott (SixApart) and Caterina Fake (Flickr).
linkwww.caterina.net/
see previous article for the "SixApart" site
Mommybloggers are not only becoming a force
to reckon with in consumer activism but they
are dispelling the myth that most internet
users are male, white and under the age of 30.
However we still have a huge majority of minority
women, mostly women of color under 30, who are
communicating online through cellular technologies
yet not necessarily partaking of the blogosphere.
This is not a problem of digital divides. It
is a problem of digital exclusions, with the
new majority of colored and ethnic under 30s
not meshing seamlessly with what is happening
on the blogosphere. If there is an ugly truth
about the blogosphere that keeps me awake at
night, this is it.
VITA
Do you have a belief that women are leading us
into the 21st century..if so is this happening?
Has the internet and blogging influenced that
change?
LIZA
This is an interesting question. Do you mean to
say that women will lead us into the 21st century
as consumer or as producers? As consumers, there is
no question about it. I believe women are actually
more interested in the practical application of
networking technologies than men are.
There has obviously, been a major increase in the
consumption, of computers and cellular technology
for domestic use. Yet the real movers and shakers
are the makers, not the consumers. If we look at
some of the companies out there: Ebay, Six Apart,
Blogger, Flickr --these all have (or have had)
women among their founders.
In that sense, yes, sure, women are also blazing
the trail. Yet the problem is that I still see most
of the investment money offered to male-run projects
This is painfully true in the blogosphere, where
more than a few 'top blogs', (including some of
the political ones), have been funded by, angel
investors and/or angel donors.
NEW TECHNOLOGY AND CHANGING OLD PARADIGM'S
LIZA
I have come to this observation on the issue:
Most of the web2.0 technologies we are enjoying
now have been disruptive to old political, media
and business models. Yet not necessarily changing
their infrastructures and their hierarchies.
That is because we are still in between the old
and truly revolutionary new. We have "created"
disruptive technologies yet what we need right
now are disruptive social dynamics.
VITA
It would be interesting to know whether PEW'S
research questions were asked in other community
languages other than English as a first language?
LIZA
In America pro-union Latin is, primarily leading
this movement. American working class women are
"having an impact on this change".Most of them
are over 25. Their networking tools, of choice
are cellular phones, email lists and occasional
MySpace and Flickr accounts.
I am looking forward to the 2008 elections. I
believe, is not the middle class college-educated
blogger who will be making a difference.
My observation and instincts tell me that the labor
/immigration movement led mostly by working class
Latinas who are going to crash into everybody's
political party....

Swishing our tails and rasing our voices [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 04:37:pm
Part 2: from Liza the publisher and one of the team
at ?culture kitchen?. Liza talks to me about 21st
century women creating change. The influence and
the impact these women are having as ?consumer
and producers?, in the world of ?netactivism?.
See Vita?s quick links for her site, or on
my article below this interview.
VITA
Has the use of ?culture kitchen?s? website
enhanced grass roots activism and reached
women who may never have a voice before?
LIZA
Blogs are not entities by themselves. Blogs
are points or nodes in a whole network of
relationships. I reach regular folks, yes,
but most of the people I know who read my
site are 'influencer's' in the activist
world here and abroad.
I reach them offline through conferences
and workshops. I help a lot of activists
advocacy groups and issue specific groups
to jump start their own online efforts.
For some it may be a blog, for others it
may be a wiki, an online forum or an email
list. Many of the conversations continue to
happen offline as well and developed outside
of the culturekitchen sphere.
VITA
The internet research company PEW have
found through their research, of blogging
sites they identified 58% are sites by
women and in fact maintained longer than
men?s blogging sites!
LIZA
Yes, I am aware of that but I am hesitant
about those numbers. LiveJournal was one
of the first places for women to establish
a voice and easily publish online.
Please note I have chosen to not link to some
sources that LIZA has mentioned. However do
seek them out ones self if one is compelled
to do so.....VL
LIZA
It was not until after ?SixApart? bought into
the market did Live Journal have a much
higher profile as a 'blog' service.
linkwww.sixapart.com/
(Mena Trott is the co founder of the site above
and it is worth reading her profile on the site
and her longevity in the industry) VL
LIZA
It is the same with (?Murdoch?s purchase?)of the ?MySpace?
site and a myriad of other social networking sites. I am
an old school blogger, so I take issue with calling people
who write on those sites, bloggers. I wish I were more
enthusiastic about the figure but the truth is that out
of the 65+ million blogs out there, more than 2/3 are
splogs (spam blogs).
LIZA ON START UP CAPITAL
In addition, what is worst, most of the successful
blogs launched these days have a big chunk of capital
or start-up money behind them. Look no further than
Arianna Huffington and her site.
VITA AS AN ASIDE
Arianna appears to have an excellent PR machine
and lots of connections in celebrity land.It
would be fascinating to know what her market mix
is and why people read her column?
LIZA
It used to be you could have an actual audience
of thousands with just a blog and good content.
Now it is increasingly difficult for anybody, but
especially for women and minorities, to launch a
blog and break out of the dark confines of the
'long tail'. Given bloggers just want a few
readers, then that is not an issue.
However, when you are blogging to make a
difference in the world, having a handful
of readers can be a challenge, not a
breakthrough.
Especially when you have old media companies
throwing millions behind their 'little' blog
ventures.
Part 3 from LIZA on the influence of women and
net/activism soon...

Who's voices are being heard? [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 04:21:pm
Culture Kitchen Publisher and writer Liza Sabater,
talks to VITA on life in the politically charged
blogsphere world....
linkwww.culturekitchen.com
PART ONE
VITA
How many women are using your website as a
resource for political information and as a
means of activism for them? Does Culture Kitchen
know the breakdown of how many women are regularly
accessing the site?(Geographical socio economic
and age)
LIZA
That is hard to tell... I honestly do not take
women or men's user names at face value because,
on the 'internet' nobody knows really knows. In
addition, I have found this to be true on blogs,
not so much on email lists. There is an aspect of
email lists that gives a certain level of real
'intimacy that propels even anonymous bloggers
to use pseudonyms or even their real names.
I cannot give you specifics for these questions
because I do not ask those questions. I am more
interested in how people reach my blog semantically
because it gives me an idea of the psycho demo-
graphics of the people reading us.
Most people who stumble upon our site are
not looking for political information. On
the contrary, they may be looking for the
latest on a variety of topics: pop culture,
education, movies, recipes, midwifery.
That is because "culturekitchen" is not a
blog about women's issues. Most of our writer?s
feminist practices inform their critical analysis
of culture and politics in a blog.
People that hit our site, on purpose do so because
they seek more than the academic does 'SHE SAID,
SHE SAID' of most feminist blogs. (or broad sheet
media for that matter)....
People who stumble upon our site by accident do
so because they were looking either for p..n
or for the latest gossip. Those are the ones I
am most interested in because if I see in my
traffic logs that any number of these people
stayed long enough to read more than one article.
Then I feel we have accomplished our mission of
providing a critical eye to the issues (and
trends) of the day.
VITA
What are the issues that are paramount and are
consistent over the time you have been involved
with grass roots activism particularly for women?
LIZA
On women's issues, we consistently have been
involved with causes around reproductive rights.
Here is a good example
linkwww.culturekitchen.com/archives/003437.html
VITA
What impact do you see the Culture Kitchen website
having for women accessing information and being
empowered to have a voice?
Do you see the impact of change happening via the
use of your website as a way for women to have a
voice?
How is this impacting and changing the status
for women?
LIZA
Some of my readers are mothers I meet at soccer or
at gym events involving my children. I have had
friends who have thanked me for the site because,
as one of them said to me, "you help me make sense
of all information that's bombarded to me from TV
and newspapers".
I am not just a blogger or online pundit. I am a
real person and a real mom who helps people to
understand politics by parsing the spin from the
facts. Yet, on a more personally political
level, I am probably one of a handful of '
minority' women who are prominent in the US
blogosphere.
I also came to prominence outside of the clique
of candidate and Capitol Hill bloggers that are
now considered the 'big blogs sites'. Therefore,
it means a lot to my readers that I am a Puerto
Rican black woman over 40 with influence in the
political blogosphere; shattering the conceit
that said blogosphere is male. That is All white,
all under 30 and all upper class.
Just by being here,I help make a difference
More later from LIZA shaking the cage in the
blogsphere world

Renewable LIVES's or OIL?? [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 12:32:pm
This from Louise Barry
"Two years ago I was on a bus that was blown
up by terrorists. Three months in traction &
six operations later, I'm asking for your help
to prevent this from happening to any more
people.
These recent attacks in the UK have not
only brought back some really painful
memories, they've prompted me to make
a television ad and we need your help
to show it.
Please watch my urgent plea here:
linkwww.getup.org.au/campaugn/PleaseMrHoward
I thought going to war in Iraq was supposed
to make us safer, not put us in more danger.
Now we're hearing it was for their oil. Some
of you may have seen me ask John Howard from
my hospital bed whether he thought what had
happened to me was a result of the war in
Iraq.
I did not think then that two years later
that Australian troops would be still be in
Iraq. I am compelled to ask the Australian Prime
Minister(Mr Howard) the same question.
Yet here we are our military presence is not
making the Iraqis any safer; it is not making
Australians any safer.
Why, exactly, are we there then for?
I want to help the Iraqi people, but not at
the end of a gun. Our involvement in the
violence in Iraq will only lead to more
violence. Why can't we instead spend the
money on reconstruction programs?
I have first hand experience about the
real cost of terrorism. Please, help me
compel the Australian Prime Minister to
leave Iraq NOW.'
Louise Barry
Survivor, 2005 London Bombings
GetUp member
Indeed Louise has an excellent point. What are
the "Coalition of the willing' trying to achieve
by still being in Iraq? How long will it take
one may ask to "win", as they put it..How many
people need to die to achieve peace? Who is
determining the fate/ outcome of this appalling
and unjust situation....?
As Gretel from 'Australia's BIG Brother'
would say 'it's time to go"...On this occasion
there are NO prizes for endurance and suffering...
Leave now "Get up and give it up... There is
nothing to win from this fruitless and ego based
battle.. Focussed on patriarchal control.The
fall of the last empires and their sense of
what is right seems to be what may well be at
stake... We well may ask whom does this conflict
benefit? This question MUST be asked!!

Trust and Belief in "US" [Vita's Guests] -

Be brave with ones conversation, communication clarity
& cleverness. These qualities are all part of how to
be open to a love filled life/ VITA.......
And this from "Get UP!! And also "Australia's fear/
fierce/less and trust ME leader"....??
"An embarrassing leak from the Prime Minister's office!
On Sunday, he told the Liberal Party's National Council
When it comes to global warming, we've just got to trust
him.
So to really drive the message home, his new $23 million
climate change ad blitz will feature a personal appeal to
the nation. "GetUp" got our hands on an advance copy, and
it's pretty unbelievable.
Click on the link below to check it out.
linkwww.getup.org.au/campaign/Beliiveme
Okay, busted. The Government's real ad will probably
explain why they haven't set any binding targets for
reducing OUR greenhouse pollution or increasing our
dwindling production of renewable energy.
If you're wondering where this clip really came from,
it was submitted by Dominic Allen from Melbourne as part
of GetUp's Oz in 30 seconds project- giving Australians
the chance to make, vote for and broadcast our own
political ads, to show OUR politicians what we think
for a change this election.
If you think Dominic's done a good job, spread the link
above to a few friends. If you'd like to see your own
message on national television, go one better and make
one yourself.
New clips are being produced, polished and uploaded
right now onto Ozin30seconds.org from around Australia
Online voting begins in July, then it's over to our high
profile judges to pick the ultimate winner at a big awards
night, August 1 at the Sydney Opera House. If you want
Australia to see your ad there's still time,
but be quick - submissions close 30 June 2007.
Prime Minister, we all want a strong economy. Every
serious study shows us that early action on climate
change is far better for our economic future. We
all know there's no such thing as an economy without
an environment.
Believe us,

The visible effect of daily life [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 06:40:pm
Gallery 101 Exhibition
___________
Rhett D'Costa will be showing a new body of paintings
and drawings opening 3rd June. 2007 D'Costa's colorful
and poetic work identifies itself with the highly visible
systems that affect our daily lives. He is interested
in the relationship between logic and intuition, between
control and spontaneity, between fast and slow and between
remembering and forgetting.
RHETT D?COSTA
LITTLE THOUGHTS / SECRET PICTURES
Painting and Drawing
GALLERY 101 5 - 23 JUNE 2007
Opening Tuesday 5 June 6-8pm
?Painters are faced with a complex challenge; how to
make paintings that matter in the contemporary world.
I am interested in the tension and slippage between
things falling apart and things coming together. The
polarities between incompleteness and completeness.
I am interested in the relationship between intuition
and conscious thought; between thinking and making,
and points of decision making, which occur during
the process of making art?.
Rhett D?Costa 2004
Rhett D?Costa?s paintings and drawings appear to
oscillate between harmony and discordance, uniformity
and randomness, flatness and plasticity. This heightens
the vulnerable human gesture. We notice the accuracy of
line and mark on the picture plane and the paint
misbehaving.
Titles act as a point of entry for the viewer, but the
works remain open to a myriad of interpretative readings.
The viewer is encouraged to find an intuitive, experiential
approach to the paintings. To cancel out, count, find patterns
and attempt to decipher codes and links -
To create a play of associations based on experience,
memory, judgment and taste.
?D?Costa?s mark making is like concrete poetry. With it,
we lose the image and move into something felt, beautiful,
tactile. These momentary, nomadic geometries of errant
number and gesture posit a world of vast intangible and
amorphous ideas. A world in which we realize what we
perceive is limited.
A plurality of possible spaces in our world of compressed
time, they conjure an esoteric memory of ancient and imagined
worlds? The sense of ideas refracting across space, without
maps, as an abstract thing becomes a living being.?
Above excerpt from Possible Worlds,
catalogue essay by Martina Copley, Monash Gallery, Gippsland,
2007.
BACKGROUND
Born in Bombay, India, Rhett D?Costa studied a Bachelor of
Arts [Fine Art, Painting] and a Master of Arts [by Research]
at RMIT University in Melbourne.
D?Costa is currently lecturing in Painting at RMIT University.
In 2003, he was a finalist in the Arthur Guy Memorial Painting
Prize, Bendigo Art Gallery, Victoria.
D?Costa has participated in several solo and group exhibitions
including Carte Blanche ? A Drawing Exhibition, Alliance Francaise,
Singapore, 1999; Works on Paper, Sungshin Museum, Seoul, Korea,

Gallery, 2007. Rhett D?Costa?s work is part of a range of

A blossoming VITA/life... [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 02:49:pm
Women bloggers blossom _ Dan talks to VITA
This from the lovely
Dan Skeen ( see his link in
my quick links)
AGE NEWSPAPER
May 8, 2007
"It's a big world out there for blogger Vita but there
are challenges to be faced."
"Isn't blogging just for people who are stupid & lonely?"
The blogger known as Vita recalls her stunned reaction
to this blunt comment from a dinner-party guest. While
his etiquette is dubious, the guest's attitude exemplifies
a general ambivalence towards blogging among Australians,
particularly women.
Still, after a long period of dormancy by global standards,
there are signs that Australia's women bloggers are beginning
to bloom. The Melbourne-based creator of the art and events
blog www.vitalingus.com (one is right here), has been watching
these developments for some time. She launched her blog back in
2000 which was originally served out of New Jersey, in the
pioneer days of blogging."
This site is now hosted by the lovely people at Melbourneonline
see the link in Vita's quick links.. (VITA)
"It basically took three months of research to find an
Australian provider that would serve a blogger", she says.
Now happily hosted in Melbourne, she enjoys more than 35,000
visitors" in high season, "and has made a network of global
connections."
"But, aside from a few success stories such as vitalingus.com
& reasonsyouwillhateme.blogspot.com, Australia's bright lights
of bloggerdom are predominantly men.
Of the 8000 women's blogs listed at BlogHer.org, just 96
are of Australian or New Zealand origin. By comparison
Canada, a country with 36 per cent more people, lists 82
per cent more women's blogs.
This gap has left bloggers like Vita feeling isolated.
She tried to set up a course on blogging in 2004 but
only three people registered. "Patriarchy is alive and
well," she says of the current crop of male bloggers
who receive the lion's share of traffic.
"They think the world is about them and they never
take the time to write back to you."
The gender disparity has its roots in the early days of
blogging, which initially caught on in the tech sector.
Early blogs required technical expertise to set up and
use, at a time when most computer programmers were men,
so the gender disparity among bloggers was significant.
That gap is closing, particularly in the US. Bolstered by
the growth of blogging networks for women, such as
blogher.org, the US has seen a huge surge of women bloggers.
"Women bloggers already comprise about half of the bloggers
out there," says Elisa Camahort, a co-founder of BlogHer.
The same trends driving this growth in the US are affecting
Australia, albeit on a smaller scale. Technical barriers
are lowering. Today hosted blogs such as Wordpress.com &
Blogger.com make it simple for anyone to get started.
Despite the slow adoption in Australia, the uptake of
women bloggers is more significant than a simple
statistic on gender equality, for this reason: women
blog differently.
"They tend to be more conversational and communal
compared to men," Camahort says. "And they value
the opinions and reviews from people they know
virtually online."
"This will" undoubtedly "have significance for our
society & business. advertisers, promoters, public
relations. Corporate communications professionals
will find it increasingly important to consider
the influence of a community of highly networked
women bloggers.
"You can see how this would change the dynamic of how
(one) does business," Camahort says. Ones "customers
are out there talking among themselves in a much more
amplified and distributed manner than they ever were
before.

Burn- less fire without desire [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 06:20:pm
The Buddha's teaching is all about understanding suffering--its origin, its
cessation, and the path to its cessation. When we contemplate suffering, we
find we are contemplating desire, because suffering and desire are the same
thing.
Desire can be compared to fire. If we grasp fire, what happens? Does it lead
to happiness? If we say: "Oh, look at that beautiful fire! Look at the beautiful
colors! I love red and orange; they're my favorite colors,"
When we grasp it, we would find a certain amount of suffering entering the body.
Then if we were to contemplate the cause of that suffering we would discover it
was the result of having grasped that fire. On that information, we would hopefully
let the fire go.
Once we let fire go then we know that it is not something to be attached to.
This does not mean we have to hate it, or put it out. We can enjoy fire, can't
we? It is nice having a fire, it keeps the room warm, but we do not have to
burn ourselves in it.

Tranquility in action [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 09:13:am
"There's a story of three people who are watching a monk standing on top
of a mountain. After they watch her for a while, one of the three says,
She "must be a shepherd looking for a sheep she's lost." The second
person says, "No, she's "not looking around. I think she must be waiting
for a friend."
The third person says, "She's "probably a monk. I'll bet she's meditating."
They begin arguing over what this monk is doing, and eventually, to
settle the dispute, they climb the mountain and approach her.
"Are you looking for a sheep?" "No, I don't have any sheep to look for."
"Oh, then you must be waiting for a friend." "No, I'm not waiting for
anyone." "Well, then you must be meditating." "Well, no. I'm just
standing here. I'm not doing anything at all." ...
Seeing Buddha-nature requires that we... completely be each moment, so
that whatever activity we are engaged in--whether we're looking for a
lost sheep, or waiting for a friend, or meditating--we are standing
right here, right now. Doing nothing at all."

"active wild mind" [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 04:01:pm
?Ancient Pali texts liken meditation to the process of taming a wild
elephant. The procedure in those days was to tie a newly captured
animal to a post with a good strong rope. When one does this, the
elephant is not happy.
They scream and trample, and pull against the rope for days. Finally
it sinks through his skull that he can't get away, and he settles down.
At this point you can begin to feed him and to handle him with some
degree of safety.
Eventually you can dispense with the rope and post altogether, and
train ones elephant for various tasks. Now you've got a tamed elephant
that can be put to useful work.
In this analogy the wild elephant is ones wildly active mind, the rope
is mindfulness, and the post is our object of meditation, our breathing.
The tamed elephant that emerges from this process is a well-trained,
concentrated mind that can then be used for the exceedingly tough job
of piercing the layers of illusion that obscure reality.
Meditation tames the mind.

Tony's life Tony's Pitch [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 05:44:pm
MY ?STORY OF A LIFETIME?
?Tony Anthony?s book Beneath Buddha's Eyes is based on a true story,
?Beneath Buddha?s Eyes? offers a tender story of love amidst the hell
of war and a singular perspective of the Vietnam conflict.?
Here is his pitch for his second film see Vita links on the right
?Fearless Mountain" his first documentary released in 2006
?I?m a writer, photographer and film maker. My life is made
up of visual and written stories. ?Beneath Buddha?s Eyes? is
my second book.
It has adventure, romance, an exotic setting and takes place
during a war that is still very controversial. When you add
those elements together, they make for wonderful possibilities.
When I tell people this particular story people usually say, ?Wow
that should be a movie!? Others say, ?that would make a great novel.?
After hearing these kinds of comments for several years, I finally quit
my job and wrote the book.
It had to evolve and work its way out of my bones my essence. The very
fiber of my experience in Vietnam had to be explored or I was going to
explode.
I wrote the screenplay first. The story has always been so real in my
head it spilled easily out of me on to a hundred or so pages of dialogue
and visual descriptions, as if it happened yesterday. I finally came up
with a name for the story. I called it ?Beneath Buddha?s Eyes? as it takes
place in Vietnam a country steeped in Buddhism. The story ?turns? in a
scene in a Buddhist temple.
Before the ink was dry on the pages of the screenplay, my wife
suggested I write it as a novel in order to have it bought by
Hollywood. I live in California so it felt right to do so.
The first publisher I sent it to bought it and published it and
there it was, or here it is!
(see Vita's quick links "Beneath Buddha's Eyes")
It hasn?t been taken up by Hollywood, which doesn?t surprise me
because I?ve always had the feeling the movie would be made in
Australia, not in the U.S.
The story revolves around a romance between a female Australian
correspondent and a young American soldier. But let me copy from
the book jacket.
?In 1968, Peter Hill left his comfortable life at Yale to discover
the truth about Vietnam firsthand. Assigned as a reporter, Peter
encountered an Australian journalist named Kate White?brilliant,
devastatingly beautiful, and tough as nails.
Together they inadvertently stumbled upon a covert U.S. operation
on the Ho Chi Minh Trail that no one wanted them to divulge. With
the war raging around them, Peter and Kate fell in love despite
themselves, but their happiness could not last in a world torn by
bombs and hatred.?
?Years later, Peter?s memories of Vietnam begin to take over as he
undergoes therapy. When his therapist unearths a book written by
Kate, whom he thought he had seen die on the battlefield after the
war.
Peter sets out to find her. Reunited after nearly two decades, Peter
and Kate attempt to heal old wounds. But could their love, born of
desperation and loneliness in a country ravaged by war, have survived
the ineluctable passing of Time?..........
God, I?m getting excited just thinking about it. I?m beginning to
see the movie on the screen. I see the incredible Australian actress
Kate Blanchett playing Kate. Te role of Peter would be a great one
for a burgeoning young actor.
If it?s true that everything happens in it?s time, could it be that
it?s time for this story to be told?
If you?re ready to sign on as Producer, Director or actor, or in
some other capacity, drop me an email
at: tony@fearlessmountainfilm.com.
I?m waiting to hear!

It is indeed a beautiful well rounded story with a great love

Choice in relationship [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 01:43:pm
Noble Truths from Sylvia
The First Noble Truth declares unflinchingly, straight out, that
pain is inherent in life itself just because everything is changing.
The Second Noble Truth explains that suffering is what happens when
we struggle with whatever our life experience is.
Rather than accepting and opening to our experience with wise and
compassionate response. From this point of view, that there's a
big difference between pain and suffering.
Pain is inevitable; lives come with pain. Suffering is not inevitable.
If suffering is what happens when we struggle with our experience
because of our inability to accept it, then suffering is an optional
extra. I misunderstood this when I started my practice and believed.
if I meditated hard enough I would be finished with all pain.
That turned out to be a big mistake. I was disappointed when I
discovered the error and embarrassed that I had been so naive.
It's obvious we are not going to finish with pain in this lifetime.
The Buddha said, "Everything dear to us causes pain." Those of us
who have chosen relational life have made the choice that pain is well
worth it.

Belief in being & making it happen [Vita's Guests] -

From Rochelle
What is wrong with the following sentence: "I'll believe
it when I see it"? Well, it's backwards. It should really
be "When I believe it, I'll see it." That's because whatever
you believe, you bring into being."
As the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright has said,

Cosmic justice and Karma [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 11:58:pm
INTENTIONAL KARMA
Circular thinking creates structures for receiving
abundant returns. In order to receive stored blessings,
one must believe it possible, conceive a plan
and follow this journey to Source. Full circle.
Complete.
Imagine - creating 'the then' right Now by simply
believing, conceiving and receiving...
All in the name of Gratitude!
"Old school karma" got all twisted up in an illusion
of eternity. Nowhere to go? Now here to Go. Twisted
how simple it is... write before hour eyes spelling
space into for-ever...
"Karma illustrates the circular energetic nature
of the universe. Energy doesn't move in a linear format,
but rather arcs back to itself as a vibration in an ever
widening, narrow and concentrated circle.
Every energetic impulse that the self projects
eventually returns to the self, precisely the way it was
issued out."
"Karma, a gift from the universe, provides a guideline
for the Soul's evolutionary curve. It is the road map
through which the self describes the specific journey of
the Soul in this particular lifetime. Ultimately fair,
karma establishes cosmic justice.
The Law of Karma is EXACT... Karmic Law dispenses the
lessons which are uniquely tailored to the individual
student."

Free to love the journey [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 09:55:pm
WHIRRLED PEACE
Go Gratitude!
"I am centered in Gratitude as a hurricane gathering
rain peaceful to be at the heart of Now. Imagine ...
our shower of waking whirrled peace Will flow through
Now easing thirst clearing space activating abundant
seeds gathered as blessings of time. As order to chaos
one witnesses' change.
Remember...even Gratitude lives through hurricanes.
Each situation in your life exists for ones spiritual
growth and evolution and when we are ready to
acknowledge the wisdom with which we organize the
scenarios of our life, we will learn to love each
situation.
Then we can become aware of its lessons, know and
learn them and love them free. Once we learn to
love the experience, it has fulfilled its mission
in our life and can depart from us.
But as long as one continue to hate, judge, resent,
run away from or ignore it, it will exist and even
intensify as it mirrors everything one dislikes about
it. Is it good or bad, right or wrong, beneficial or
harmful, short term or permanent
All of these are judgments that will only result
in the continuation of the circumstance.
Instead, ask ones Self, 'what can be learnt from this'
then take the first step on the path to freedom. Each
difficult experience that one has is a mirror of a fear
in ones life
Discover the fear and the reason for its existence and it
has no power over one and then it ceases to exist unless
one allows it to. The more dire the situation, the greater
ones need to learn and appreciate its lesson and heal that
aspect of ones belief system.
Once one acknowledge that one creates the reality,
it loses its power because it is the paradigm one
built, not the result of someone else's actions
against us.
Then one can love it free and move on to create other
realities that are more peaceful, joyful & fulfilling.
No matter what the circumstance, if one can learn to love
it, we can free ourselves from it and move forward on our
journey."

A life to remember [Vita's Guests] -

Things You Probably Never Knew or Thought About
1. At least 5 people in this world love you so
much they just love you for you
2. At least 15 people in this world love you in
some way.
3.. The only reason anyone would ever hate you
is because they want to be just like you.
4. A smile from you can bring happiness to
anyone, even if they don't like you.
5..Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before
they go to sleep.
6. You mean the world to someone.
7. If not for you, someone may not be living.
8. You are special and unique.
9. Someone that you don't even know exists
loves you.
10. When you make the biggest mistake ever,
something good comes from it.
11. When you think the world has turned its back
on you, take a look: you most likely turned your
back on the world.
12. When you think you have no chance of
getting what you want, you probably won't get it, but
if you believe in yourself, probably, sooner or
later, you will get it.
13. Always remember the compliments you
received.. Forget about the rude remarks.
14. Always tell someone how you feel about
them; you will feel much better when they know.
15. If you have a great friend, take the time
to let them know that they are great.
A Minute
They say it takes a minute to find a special person,
an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but
then an entire life to forget them.

Breathing deeply with love [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 01:26:pm
Inspiration from the Heart
Worry often gives a small thing a big shadow.
Swedish Proverb
Another tip from Kathryn
" Relationship Tip of the Day
The problem one needs to solve in a conscious real/tionship
is how to let yourself tolerate more and more positive
energy. Here's why that's important:
When you get close to someone, the positive energy
multiplies exponentially. Because of past conditioning,
we set a limit on the amount of positive energy we
can tolerate. If you go past where your thermostat
is set, an internal alarm goes off.
When the alarm goes off, you tend to bring your good
feeling down by such strategies as worry thoughts,
arguing, concealing feelings, breaking agreements,
getting sick, and having accidents.
Notice when your positive energy thermostat alarm is
about to go off. Rather than unconscious strategies
like worrying or starting arguments, implement some
conscious strategies. Here are a few good ones:
Take space for yourself and make space for your partner.
Breathe deeply for a few minutes. Go for a walk, put
music on and dance, or get some favorite exercise going.
Invite your body to integrate the increased amount of
energy. Find creative ways to raise your thermostat
(such as integrating the energy) so that you can
experience greater love and positivity."

Journey of Love [Vita's Guests] -

Relationships are a journey of discovery we can trust
ourselves in one moment and doubt in the next. To
truly intergrate we must treat our relationships

our truest desires.
And this from Kathryn
Take each breath of love as it comes to you and
with trust and nuturing breath out and then back
in again... A gentle step by step approach. Let
there be ebb and flow.... Never rush the next breath
of love, feel the way allow it to evolve as our life
does........
"I own my full power to create lasting love in my life"
"Appreciate all the steps along the way with sincerity

the maps often need to be revised as we go along.
Consider each part of the journey as an opportunity

Thoughts of love by great men [Vita's Guests] -

Neither a lofty degree of intelligence nor imagination

love, love, that is the soul of genius.

We've got this gift of love, but love is like a
precious plant. You can't just accept it and leave
it in the cupboard or just think it's going to get
on by itself. You've got to keep watering it. You've
got to really look after it and nurture it.

The simplicity of love [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 02:57:pm
What love means to the Indigo children
>When my grandma got arthritis, she couldn't bend over
and paint her >toenails anymore. So my grandpa does it
for her now all the time, even when his hands got arthritis
too. That's love. Rebecca - age 8
When someone loves you, the way they say your name is
different. You just know that your name is safe in
their mouths. Billy - age 4
Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on
shaving >Cologne and they go out and smell each other.
Kari - age 5
Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most
of your French Fries without making them give you any
of theirs.Chrissy - age 6
Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.
Terri - age 4
Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she
takes a sip giving it to him, to make sure the taste is
OK.Danny - age 7
Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get
tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk
more. My mummy and daddy are like that. Emily - age 8
Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you
stop opening presents and listen. Bobby age 7 >
If you want to learn to love better, you should start with
a friend who you hate. Nikka - age 6
Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he
wears it everyday. Noelle - age 7
Love is like a little old woman and a little old man
who are still friends even after they know each other so
well. Tommy - age 6>
My mummy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone
else kissing me to sleep at night. Clare - age 6
Love is when mummy sees daddy smelly and sweaty and still
says he is handsomer than Robert Redford. Chris - age 7
Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you
left him alone all day. Mary Ann - age 4
When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and
little stars come out of you. Karen - age 7
Love is when mommy sees daddy on the toilet and doesn't
think it's gross. Mark - age 6
You really shouldn't say "I LOVE YOU" unless you mean it.
But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.
Jessica - age 8>
And this from a 4 year old child, whose next door neighbor
an elderly man, who had just lost his wife. When the child
saw the man cry, the little boy went over into the man's yard
climbed on top of the man's lap and just sat there.
When the boy's mother asked him what he'd said to the neighbor,
the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry."
Take these wisdoms and heartfelt beliefs into your life.
And rememebr to tell those you love that you do more often.
Love the other as you would have your self loved.

Playing a role in Indigo love [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 09:54:pm
World INDIGO Day Wild Success!!!
"INDIGO was the 17th highest grossing film in America
last weekend. This is a remarkable feat for a small
independent film fueled by an untraditional word of
mouth marketing campaign
But that isn't the best news of the day. We have been
receiving emails from Indigo Children around the world
thanking everyone who participated in the day long
meditation.
People stopped to focus their prayers and energy on
supporting the mission of the New Children
everywhere INDIGO was screened, and it seems to be
working.
This is just the beginning, though. They ask that we
continue by realizing that we are creating this new
world together, and that each one of us plays a very
important part/role.
Your "YES" to the Universe means so much.
LET'S DO IT AGAIN:
Due to the overwhelming success of INDIGO'S world premiere,
hundreds of venues will be showing the film again within the
next few weeks. If you have friends who didn't get the chance
to see INDIGO last weekend, this is very good news. We are
beginning to collect information on the churches and theaters
that will do follow-up screenings and will begin listing them
on the site below very soon.
link www.indigomovie.com
Stay tuned, and let's repeat this amazing success.
THE NEXT FILM:
As many of you know, James Twyman is putting the final
touches on a new film called "INTO ME SEE," a movie that
explores the delights and challenges of spiritual
relationships.
We hope to have the film ready by the end of March, and
will distribute it in a similar fashion to INDIGO. The
best thing about INTO ME SEE is that it is much more than
an ordinary movie.
The 75 minute feature film is accompanied by a 45 minute
workshop that can be conducted from any venue or theater.
It's just the next revolutionary way we intend to get our
peace message out to the world.
Details on how you can participate will be released soon.
Thank you for your Grand YES to the Universe!!!"

?Becoming a Being (existential ontology):
"We are what we can become. Ours is a process, and our
becoming is our ontic. (relating to the nature of existence)
The possibility of becoming is always present. Human
existence is a project, in which past and present are
subordinate to future.
link www.evaminstitute.org.au
It is the main residence of our existence, because it is the
north of our projection of us. ?Human existence cannot have
a relationship with being unless it remains in the midst of
nothingness.?
(M. Heidegger - was ist metaphy
Ethics / Subjectivity / Good faith
Our view of the world is enough to become Truth, because it
is based on our percieved facts. What we do with this truth,
depends on our good or bad faith. "That is,the ability to act
as if in our act all of humannkind is represented. That is
enough to prove an act as an ethical one."
Choice
"We always have a choice. Existentialism does not stand for
any kind of determinism except the one that determines our
individual facts (existence). We choose, and in choosing (in
good or bad faith) we define ourselves. Choice is a definition
of an existence in the world, towards an object outside of
itself.
Choice is all that we have, without confirmation of our act;
we never know what was right to choose. The doubt of our acts,
together with the contingence of existence, leads to Angst.
Angst
The main characteristic of existence itself, when
we face our contingence, and the absurdity of our acts and
choices: For Heidegger, it is that trough which fear becomes
possible.
For Kierkegaard it is a desire for what one fears. For
Sartre,it is the immediate consequence of facing the possibility
of nothingness.
In Simome De Beauvoir's first book, L'Invit?e, published
in 1943. A fictionalized treatment of Sartre's affair with
Olga Kosakievicz, and one of the several works dealing with
her relationship with Sartre. The motto of Fran?oise and Pierre,
the novel's protagonists, is:
"You and I are simply one. That is the truth, you know.
Neither of us can be described without the other."

Free to love fully [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 02:19:pm
It is our duty as men and women to proceed on through
our limitations. Or our ability to go forward ceases to exist.
Pierre Teilherd de Chardin
There is nothing that will not reveal it's secrets to you
if you love it enough.
When one gets close to someone, eventually two things
will happen, often simultaneously. On your part, feelings
and old patterns emerge. For example, the closeness brings
up fear or anger. Along with an old pattern of withdrawing
into onesself. All of us do this when are immersed in our
own feelings. All of us have feelings and patterns. It is
how we deal with them that makes us different from one
another.
The other person?s feelings and patterns will also emerge.
Think of you and another person standing in the light of
the sun. You have yourselves, and you have the two shadows
cast where each of you has blocked the light. There is the
relationship between the two of you as real people. There
is always the relationship between the two shadows.
The shadow part of one is the place where we hide all of
our old patterns and feelings. We all inclined toward coming
into our relationship bringing a shadow with us.
"We must all look into what these shadows contain within
ourselves and the other we wish to emulate if we are to
evolve . One must examine the relationship or the relationship
will be between two shadows instead of the two people.
At the moment when the old patterns kick into gear, one has
only a brief moment to take effective action. If we let it
slide, it can slide back into the shadow, into co-dependence.
Exactly what is this effective action? It is so simple, so
powerful, and so profound, that there is a centuries-old
conspiracy against it. The only effective action is to see
and say the truth. It is, but only once you have the courage
to do it a few hundred times.
We have the tendency to pretend not to see and to swallow the
truth. Seeing and saying the no-blame truth will set you free
in your relationships."

My beautiful and talented stylist "Pave the way",

powerful affirmation that is well worth chanting through-

"It is with grattitude I ACKNOWLEDGE I am loved
It is with grattitude I APPRECIATE I am loved
and is with gratitude I ACTIVATE unconditional
love in all of my life."

"those who don't come to love us come to teach us

to offer us both their love and their teachings."

Pimms and immaculate manners [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 10:25:pm
The word courtesy actually comes from the word "court."
the dictionary defines courteous as "marked by polished
manners, gallantry, or ceremonial usage of a court
marked by respect and consideration of others."
To be courteous is to adopt the manners of the court/
or heaven on earth. To lavish others as you would have
yourself lavished. To treat one another" like
Gods and Goddess's". or to use the commonly known
term Royality.
(That is if we we were to talk it up and formalise
our beliefs or behaviours). Or frankly if one is
unclear on the issue, my dears, just offer good
old fashioned, possibly modern God/ Goddess love
and mutual respect.
Courteous consideration, rubbed in crushed royal
velvet, served with a refreshing fruitcocktail is
always a nice method too....
Donald McCullough in "Say Please, Say Thank You:
The Respect We Owe One Another" and some-asides
from "moi/ Vita"
To Practice this every day: treat everyone you meet
friends, strangers, aquaintances those who you consider
family (spiritul and family of orgin) as one with you.
Even those confused about family or sacred ethics, deserve
to be offered an opportunity to learn a little "God/Goddessness"
treatment.

Mentoring for Golden Health [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 12:59:pm
A NEW DAY HAS DAWNED
This is a story about a mentor of the past. She is a 92-
year-old petite woman. She is well poised and always
elegantly dressed. She is fully dressed each morning by
7.00am. Her hair is always fashionably coifed, not
to mention perfectly made up.
She is about to start a new day filled with integrity and
grace. She is being moved to a nursing home today. Her
husband and great love of her life, for 70 years recently
passed away making the move necessary.
She has waited for many hours patiently in the lobby for
her new carer, at the nursing home. She smiles sweetly
when told her room is ready. She maneouvers her walker
to the elevator.
She is also identified/ labeled as legally blind
A visual description is offered by her new carer of her
tiny room/ that will become home . The details include
the eyelet sheets that had been hung over her windows
that hides, the garden of delights below.
I love it she states with the enthusiasm of
a 12 year old girl who has just been presented with
her first Ilama. ?Mrs. Smith you haven?t seen the room,
just wait?. That has little to do with it she replied?.
?Happiness and gratitude are things you decide on
ahead of time.?
Whether I appreciate my room or not doesn?t depend
on what others say or how the room is arranged.? It
is how I arrange my mind.
? I already decide to love it.? It?s a decision we
must all make every morning when we wake. Will I walk
the path of love or despair.?
We all have this choice, "I wake each day and either
stay in bed and recount the difficulties I have with
the world and the parts of my body that no longer work.
Or I get out of bed and be grateful for the ones that do.?
"Each day is a gift as long as my eyes and my heart
are open. I?II focus on the new day and all the happy
memories I have stored away just for this time in my
life."
Old age is like a sacred bank account you withdraw
from what you have put in. "So my advice is this"
deposit a lot of happiness and exquisite moments
in the bank account of memories. "Keep depositing
your love and remember five simple rules so as one
can appreciate ones life."
1.Free your heart from hatred
2.Free your mind from imagined fears
3.Live simply
4.Give more
5.Expect less
Prepared to remember and offer only the
best For my grandmothers & grandfathers

The acceptance of discernment [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 07:57:am
Considering the path from judgment to discernment
These are some considerations from Carol Bridges one who
has acted with discernment
"Egotistical self righteousness "I am always right
Blind dogmatism "My group is always right"
Prejuduce and judgmentalism " My value's are better
than others"
Discrimination " I can tell you to the smallest detail
why one thing is better than another"
Discernment " I can see a reason for it all and the part
I play in it's creation I can CHOOSE not to play a part"
"Discernment is a willingness to look and listen attentively
to information before you. Whether that information comes to
you in the form of a person, a creed, societies, pressure an
event or even the simpliest words and actions. Take the time
to reflect and absorb the reason it has been placed in your
field of AWARENESS. You can accept the part you played in
drawing it to you.
"If you do not like it, you accept your role in dismissing it
from you. Discernment is an opportunity to make CHOICES of
your own making. Discenment is a liberation of from "victim
or oppressor" You have ascended. You may now TRUST yourself
to carry out the divine will by trusting and acting on what
feels RIGHT to you in every moment."
"Your mind spirit and emotions are a co-ordinated unit acting
with full ACKNOWLEDGEMENT of your RELATIONSHIP to the whole. The
mind body spirit and emotions now know experientially that
WHAT YOU SOW YOU WILL ALSO REAP. The circle of life is clear"

seperation to the " unity of interaction". For all those
who CHOOSE to be discerning world leaders and the true

b>Wounds to the Face
By Howard Barker
Directed by Jess Kingsford
"A woman sits at a dressing table mirror, at war with her
reflection. In the city, dissident youths deface posters
bearing the dictator?s face. A soldier returns from the front
line, his face blown off. A surgeon offers him a new one."
" Wounds to the Face reveals in a series of interlocking
narratives, the pains society and its individuals undergo in
negotiating the human face. What we endure on recognising the
face as indelibly our own is seen through the traumas of war
wounding, ageing, propaganda, deception and ultimately, surgery."

"According to Jose Arguelles, this "Day Out of Time" will
be more significant than the Harmonic Convergence that took
place in 1986." On that day fourteen years ago, millions of
people focused their prayers of peace to visualise and help
create a new humane world. July 25 2004, "is the day of the
latest world wide gathering"
"It will be a more powerful and even greater opportunity to
shift the consciousness of humanity. To reestablish the "natural
law of time." You're invited to be part of the VISIONS FOR
A NEW HUMANITY conference. To find out more information
about this conference and register your attendance go to

one wanting to be closer to the earth."
A major focus of all the events will be honoring the role
being played by the "INDIGO CHILDREN" in creating this new
world. Psychic and Indigo Children will be among the speakers
at the conference, sharing their wisdom and guidance. Focus will
also be put on shifting to the thirteen moon calendar.

Ahimsa Verne's Ode for Peace [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 01:34:pm
Below is a heart felt response to the mindless/ heartless
violence going on in the world right NOW!!!
"For thousands of centuries, highly influential people have
been trying to teach the human race, to forgive thier enemies."
Consider who or what is the enemy.......
"This is not as you might think, some symbolic gesture, but
a literal instruction. I know it seems like the last thing
that a leader would or should do but, if you think about it
for a bit it's easy to see that violence and war always begets
violence and war.
War creates hatered that will undoubtedly bring war upon
the aggressor in the future. No-one who kills can be absolved
from this reaction unless they choose to forgive.
It is not enough to be seen as justified in whatever way because
killing should always be thought of as a grave unspeakable atrocity
and never ever be carried out.
One only has to think of one's own child being bombed, killed
or tortured to realise that children are the same everywhere and
thier lives should be thought of as sacred.
Not just because they are the future generation but because
they deserve our respect and protection as they are vunerable

An enlightened view of things does not regard the concerns of

AHIMSA simply means non-violence in Hindu. Ahimsa is the oldest
moral precept humans know of proably around five to six thousand
years old. It is essential, for our ongoing understanding for
civilisation. I believe non violence is truly worth considering.

A tangible world-known thoughts [Vita's Guests] -

THOUGHTS WHILE STANDING ON A CLIFF IN CALIFORNIA FACING ACROSS
THE PACIFIC TOWARDS MELBOURNE
Tony Anthony writer, and photo journalsit, speaks to Vita!!
See Beneath Buddhas Eyes link
When I was a young boy my father told me his theory about
keeping things in perspective. "Imagine you are standing
on the moon," he told me. Then, what seems like such a big
deal up close is suddenly put into perspective.
The largest open space on Earth exists between California
and, at the far end of the South Pacific, Australia. This
grand expanse of water between the East and West. I'm in
awe of the men and women who have set off in boats to
travel this awesome ocean lying between the two worlds. In
effect, they are two worlds. It's been only very recently
in the history of mankind that the two have met.
Standing on the cliffs in Mendocino County, facing West,
really does make me feel as if I am standing on the edge
of something. Not only physically, being on the edge of
a world, where my feet are comfortable and I feel at home
-but mentally, thinking about the great distance ahead.
The miles are so many that the mind cannot conceive of
the size of the space-this grand openness. It's almost
like my father said, standing on the moon looking at
the Earth.
For me, knowing there is a world over there, somewhere
on the other side of all that wind and water, gives the
ocean a context. It causes the mind to think of a map or
a globe; to want to see it or touch it in order to make
it more tangible.
Maybe because I know people who are on the other side.
Sometimes I wonder if they really exist-or if there
really is a place in Australia called Melbourne.
I wonder, if because of where you stand on the other
side of the world-does your position on the planet,
make you different from me? Do you wonder if we are
a different race? Do you ever stand on the edge of a
cliff and look towards me wondering that? I think if
you were standing on the edge of a cliff in Australia,
facing in my direction, you might just have a point of
view opposite from mine.
If you put a note in a bottle and send it adrift, when
it reaches me on my shore in Mendocino I think it will
probably be in a language I won't be able to understand.
Maybe you shouldn't do it because I'll always be wondering
what is it you said. Anyway, thinking these thoughts while
standing on the cliff, helps me keep things in perspective.

Consideration of humanity [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 02:58:pm
Consider asking someone you know a question that will open
their heart? Consider what you'll be doing one week from now?
Consider how current you are?? Consider how habitual your are?
Consider a recurring feeling that leaves you wanting? Consider
why the feeling leaves you wanting? Consider a a recurring
event that leaves you content? Consider how comfortable that
truly is?
Consider what you have let go of in your life. Consider what
you have gained? Consider your impact on others? Consider what
you offer and what you take? Consider whether you act from
genuine love or unfounded fears???
Consider what you deny your heart? Consider whether you love
fully? Consider what you think love is? Consider whether you
fear love? Consider the last time you shared your love with
another??
Then Vita suggests you consider this

Harvie Adam and Mel in Aspen [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 03:02:pm
As I said in my previous article I have some specially invited
GUESTS to contribute to my site. Heated discussion is under
way, on the color texture height of this exciting new aspect
to my column This will be coming soon to Vita's Mountain.....
This remarkable group of writers, are a select few that have
been hand picked by Vita to offer pearls of love from their
own hearts. Stay tuned for their loving contributions in the
fullness of time. Those with " a goldn mind a golden heart
and good intention only" is our policy here at Vita.
How ever on to other matters. The lovely Adam Elliot has been
seen at 30.000 ft above sea level swinging percariously from
a ski lift in Aspen. Apparently negoiating "mink lined miittens".
An absolute must have for such a precious man. They certainly
make for a better grip on the slopes of Aspen. One wonders is
Adam contemplating new ski bunny friends for the Harvie sequel?
(Poor Harvie needed more good friends really!!) Given a follow
up sequel Harvie could become quite the out doors mountain climbing
chap. Extreme sports can be very attractive and require the kind
of courage that Harvie has already displayed in his life.
"Elliot has said that he tries to make his characters
real life, even though animation is a few steps away from
being real."
Or in the words of the deligtful Ms Melanie Coombes
"Adam has found a way to go into really dark places, or
places people usually trundle around in". "He has a great
deal of sensitivity when he does that, and takes a thoughtful,
careful approach."
Never a truer word spoke on the issue of the fabulous Adam
Elliot However I suggest a torch and sensible shoes may be
required for this kind of pursuit. As it may help if one is
taking on "trundling about in dark places".
Aspen Shortsfest will see one of the first screenings of
"Harvie Krumpet" in the United States. Coombs and Elliot said
they are very loyal to Aspen Filmfest for supporting
them. This film was part of the Sundance Film Festival and
the Academy Awards package."
"I love coming here not only to ski, but because of the
quality of the films shown," Elliot said. "In Aspen, you'll
go to see eight short films and probably seven of them will
be great."
No doubt Harvie is one of them. Bless them both for their
extremely exciting sking maneouvers and contributions to
the Australian film industry.
Always wearing my mink on the inside and ready for the
mountain top.

Acceptance and sustaining love [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 11:56:am
Appreciation and acknowledgement of love offered is like the
icing on the cake, a bath filled with bubbles and Ylang Ylang
or a loving hug of hope and kindness.
"Acceptance""
I am pleased great spirit, those aspects of my ideas that were
most worthy have been accepted by my people. Those portions of
my vision that I was courageous to accept myself have been approved
by those around me. The love I was brave enough to offer has been
received. Now I take time to relax and enjoy my friendship with you
Let us play together in my love..."

Pearls from Kathryn and Vita [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 11:34:am
Open your heart and let love in, do not regret what has been before.
Be glad for what becomes your present. Be courageous in how you will create your future.
"Withdrawal and projection are the natural outcomes of withholding.
When you withhold, you keep inside yourself things that should be
expressed. The very act of hiding these things takes you one step back
from the relationship."
"A result of this withdrawal is that you will begin to project. In
other words, you will begin to attribute to other people things that
are actually issues of your own. Withdrawal follows withholding so
swiftly that often we do not notice the sense of distance at first."
"The tendency to hide how we feel is so ingrained that it often lasts
long into even the healthiest relationship. In our own relationship,
where we have been practicing these principles for well over a decade,
we still have to maintain constant vigilance to make sure we do not
slip back into hiding our feelings and desires from each other."
Willing to be persistent and vigilant with my love

Our true nature [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 11:23:am
Remember Remember Remember when you have acted from love acted from the "sacred heart" you have shown your divine nature and you will be living in the garden of your delights. Use your understanding of the physical world, (your body the vessel of the heart) in conjuction with your intellectual knowledge and blend even deeper into the sacred heart. When you do this you have truly reclaimed your loving power and the world will become a place filled with Tibetan Magic.
James Twyman on the sacred heart"
"All things are complete within you now.. Transcend all the rest. It is the "Throne of Power," the gateway to the whole universe. This is how you may understand the nature of your three hearts: The first rules all things physical; the second, or subtle heart, rules all things spiritual; the third, or Sacred heart, simply rules all things. It is the bridge that connects you with all reality."

Outdoors behaviour with Scout [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 11:01:pm
"DibDib, DibDob viewers." Happened to be icepicking up Vita's
mountain, when I received a vital call that a particular goddesses
compost had runneth over. Despite her reputation for extreme outdoor behaviour, even goddesses need a reliable, fearless friend in
sensible shoes.
It seems the one thing that will send Vita to her bath is dealing with
wild animals in the compost. It's those wriggly matters in the nether regions of the earth (or other unexpected places), that can be particularly nasty. (Vita and I share some rather vile memories of those awful ticks in Peru).
As you may well be aware, Vita has been popping in and sharing
her insights and "pearls of wisdom" on my show,"Playing Like Girl"
12.00pm -1.00pm Sundays, 3CR Community Radio, 855am.
Stay tuned this Sunday the 18th May for an interview with the
very glamourous Sharon Anyos - world champion boxer and our
regular dive inside sports briefs (for the best in playtex)
and all the latest and greatest in womens sport.

Love come whisper [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 12:37:pm
"It is you Love who heals all my wounds.from the past
and present. And now that I dare to take your hand.I walk
with you into the unknown--the future. I beseech you.
Love, stay with me and lift me when I fall."
by Tony Anthony
Muslim Prayer for Peace
"In the name of Allah the beneficent, the merciful. Praise be
to the Lord of the Universe, who has created us and made us
into tribes and nations that we may know each other, not that
we may despise each other. If the enemy incline towards peace,
do thou also incline towards peace, and trust God, for the Lord is
the one that heareth and knoweth all things.
And the servants of God, most Gracious are those who walk on
the earth in Humility, and when we address them, we say "PEACE."
The Baha'i Prayer for Peace
"Be generous in prosperity and thankful in adversity.
Be fair in thy judgment, and guarded in thy speech.
Be a lamp unto those who walk in darkness, and a home
to the stranger. Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding
light unto the feet of the erring. Be a breath of life
to the body of humankind, a dew upon the soil of the human
heart, and a fruit upon the tree of humility."
May love come whisper in your heart

The threads of of our nature [Vita's Guests] -
vitalingus - @ 09:58:pm
"If I just look within, the world of choices is self-contained?simpler by the mere fact that whatever is in me is something I already own."
Tony Anthony
You do have the power of the divine within, coming from the east, take your inspirations and dreams, love them nuture and grow them. From the south make your plans concise and clear, from the west mould them into their fullness of maturity and in the north see your creations evolve and let them go forth in to new and inspiring creations.
As they say a dancer must let go of one step to make the next. Recieve, intergrate and be free to let go. Take the strands and threads of your life and make them dance on your mountain.
Weaving the threads of life
