SLF leads US into the Transistion Decade  -  @ 08:53:pm
The Sustainable Living Festival is over for another year
in Melbourne Australia. For those in the know, it is the
most engaging and relevant event to attend and be seen at…

The SLF festival at Federation Square every February for
the last 11 years! It is a must do event, in one of the
most livable cities in the word..

“SLF is one of the largest festivals in Melbourne and has
the smallest environmental impact.”

The SLF ‘lives it is talk with knowledge and actions…SLF
have been awarded the’. Sustainability Victoria Waste Wise
Gold Certification)”…

The Festival traditionally proceeds at Melbournians “people’s
Square, along the banks of the Yarra River. This is a very
love filled accessible thrilling event for ALL to participate
in!

linkfestival.slf.org.au/

The festival is the essence of “ecological economical & social
sustainability’. and a sound foundation of the “Transition Decade”
We can proudly say, “The SLF festival now spans two decades.
The Festival celebrates innovation and access too very lateral
very realistic far reaching “future thinking”.

The festival highlights an all-embracing range of the very NOW
“Transition Decade”, home and lifestyle products and services,
that included a diverse range of new divine players and products
at the festival this year….

Vita’s absolute new favorites that stood out and slipped on were
the ethically sound, so comfortable so accessible “pantsforpoverty…”
Ah, ya ya, the team at Vita have barely touched the ground since
slipping into our new ethical panties!!

linkwww.pantstopoverty.com.au

Hilarious and so brief and rather naughty , indeed giving a whole
new, angle, and comfort to living on a G-string budget! We at Vita
were most impressed even by side ourself on seeing the elegant must
have linen produced by the lovely Jane from the divine linen range
@
linkwww.ecosleepaustralia.com.au/

Ah yaya "Jane is so"COshee"

This is the best summer activity, not to miss if one has chosen
to live sustain -ably and create anew….This festival has been
traditionally and consistently a free three-day festival
over the last 11 years.

In the first year of the “Transition Decade”, the festival
included two programs. The main event held at Federation Sq
(19-21 February 2010) last weekend “The Local Events Program
06-21 February 2010) introduced for the first time this year,
as a new 2-week format.”

This broader inclusion enabled individuals and communities
Australia, to host and create their own sustainability event
at a local level. The Festival raises perception of living
sustainably and honoring the resources we have, promoting new
innovation and products.

The Festival offers a fundamental way forward so we can all
love and live more fully in the “Transition Decade. The SLF
festival provides no nonsense tools for living well with
integrity, by using less and utilizing more of what we already
have...

Ethical and sustainable values and products are a core aspect
of what one can see experience and purchase Highlighting "tangible
solutions" to the "ecological and social challenges" we ALL face,
as we move into this crucial new decade...

The SLF festival has far-reaching and visionary focus, which is
inclusive And very NOW! The event has an extraordinary powerful
energy, that well may be the largest group of change agents that
are gathered in one spot annually over a eleven-year period!

This event embodies the essence of why we can and must be living
sustainable life’s….The festival has exceptional substance and
offers over 300 events.Informed talks, insightful presentations,
innovative live performances, twilight films, an array of artworks
and very interactive workshops.

All the festival exhibitors. offer useful, “everyday” sustainable
solutions for all of us!

PRESENTING THE CASE TO RESTORE A SAFE CLIMATE
PROMOTING A SHARED TIME FRAME FOR ACTION
DEMONSTRATING THE POWER OF COLLABORATION

OPENING ADDRESS BY THE GOVERNOR OF VICTORIA
PROFESSOR DAVID DE KRETSER, AC.

The launch of the Transition Decade will showcase
leading work by groups that are using this shared
time frame and scale of change, and will set out
the many ways that 1000's of organizations and the
millions of people can join the alliance.

JOIN THE ACTION ALLIANCE TO RESTORE A SAFE CLIMATE

link www.t10.net.au/

BACKGROUND TO THIS TRANSITIONAL DECADE WE HAVE TO HAVE

At both the state and national levels, local leadership
has failed to deliver even very small cuts in carbon
emissions. Not surprisingly at the international level.

The recent Copenhagen negotiations produced no meaningful
outcomes. We ALL have to face it, conventional political
change are no longer relevant. We have run out of time for
half-measures. It is now imperative that a safe climate is
restored as fast as humanly possible. This requires zero
emissions, and more, at emergency speed.

"The Transition Decade" campaign is well under way & being
designed to meet this dual challenge of going for the goals
necessary to achieve real and effective change.

The "Transition Decade" strategy is to harness the power
and energy of very real collaboration. We are creating an
effective alliance & committed groups inspired and driven
by a collaborative framework..A strategy we can and must
all embrace, through this next decade of structural and
social change.

The "Transitional Decade" launch is the opportunity to
take the size and effectiveness of this alliance to a whole
new level. Already a growing cluster of groups are dedicated
to the "transition decade" and working together to define
how the safe climate goal can be achieved, through technical
and lifestyle change.

This alliance is also working on how the whole of society can
engage with a commitment and passion so that governments and
large corporations realize that taking effective action is
the only viable course.

THE TRANSITION DECADE IT’S TIME TO RESTORE A SAFE CLIMATE
POWER OF COLLABORATION WITH A SHARED PLAN
This is the "Transition Decade," a shared time frame for
action to restore a safe climate and sustainable world -
for US all, all species, all generations.

To make this possible we need to create a commitment from
All communities and build the political will to adopt and
implement the necessary actions to avoid further tipping
points.

To achieve the Transition Decade goals we must all need to engage
and build a mass alliance that is inclusive of all parts of OUR
society. A vast job that no one group can do alone. Many of the
solutions are well within our reach.

Now is the time to engage everyone, everywhere. As a whole and
together we can work to restore a safe climate.

Don't ask what the "Transition Decade is doing for one ask what
one is doing for the "Transition Decade

Always engaging in Transition

Clean jobs vs dirty pollutters  -  @ 01:46:pm
The Dirty Polluters are controlling and consciously
stealing our future. Why is it nations continue too
feed the greediest and ignore a green future, that
actually HELLO does have a future...It would appear
the Australian government are happier to give our
"power" too the polutters of the past....

"20 companies have already won the most concessions
from the Rudd Government's emissions trading scheme
employ 28 lobbying firms with well over 100 staff."*

They have been swarming the halls of Parliament House,
& have spent millions on advertising, in a vast effort
to prevent action on climate change and very keen to
maintain the status quo of their last century power
base.It could appear too line the pockets of their
executives with more taxpayer-funded handouts.

Have we not taken on board what has occurred in that
other major industrial country, that has hit the skids
as an consequence of feeding the greedy and not the
future!! When the Federal Parliament returns, they
will ramp up their fear campaign.

We can counter the power of pollutters influence
through the power of sheer numbers and creating a new
influence of change. We are able to play and role so
join in to fund a newspaper ad that counters their
poisonous vision less message.

Click below and lets get this "ad" in print next
Monday when Parliament resumes

linkwww.getup.org.au/campaign/ClimateActionNow&id=829

There is one thing our pollies do before they meet
lobbyists: read the paper. That is why we it is essential
to run this full-page ad in a paper every Australian
politician reads..(Maybe NOT Wilson or they other nay
sayers)....

It will be run in The Australian, to reinforce the message
that action on climate change will and can create hundreds
of thousands of jobs. So far, the Rudd Government has given
in to the polluters' demands to the tune of over $10 billion.

This week, the news may get worse. The Opposition wants an
already woefully weak ETS made even weaker, and the polluters
want to squeeze the Government for all they can get.

We need to turn this debate around. In reality, a stronger
climate policy would mean the unlocking of hundreds of
thousands of new jobs.

It is a win-win, but all our politicians are hearing is
from the self-interested polluter lobby. Be a renewable
energy champion we can use the power of numbers to get
this ad where it is needed most…….

In just a few weeks time, many world leaders will meet
in Copenhagen to find solutions to the challenge of
climate change. Goddess me Australia can be at the
forefront of change.. We can lead the way forward....

In These few short weeks will determine the position
our Government takes to the table right now, it is not
looking good. It is up to us to hold the Government to
account, and make their policy match their rhetoric.

That means stronger investment in clean-energy, not the
browning down of an already woefully inadequate emissions
trading scheme, to unlock the hundreds of thousands of
jobs that lie waiting. Australia does not have to fall
behind other nations who are currently building a clean-
energy economy.

Be a part of a clean renewable solution..
Lets all play a part and create anew!!

The politics of human debt  -  @ 05:09:pm
At last Politicians with consciousness and a sense
of what is right intention and best karma

The Story so far
After four years in immigration detention, Masoud
was granted a temporary visa. Then he was hit with
a $264,000 bill for his "accommodation" in Baxter
Detention Centre. There are hundreds more like him -
experiencing unimaginable trauma only to then be
charged with an enormous bill for their misguided
incarceration as would seem the other more glaring
injustice.

This appalling practice of "charging costs" has been
going on in Australia for some time is simply not right
not to mention cruel inhumane and surely crosses the line
of the Geneva convention or human rights laws!!

HOWEVER THINGS ARE ON THE UP AND GOOD KARMA RESTORED
Thanks to the efforts of caring Australians, the bill
to abolish detention debt was passed this week in the
Senate.

In an historic move, Liberal Senator Troeth, met
with a GetUp delegation of those affected by this
policy, abandoned her party's position and crossed
the floor to support the bill. She was joined, at
the last minute, by Senator Fielding whose support
we will need on other refugee reform bills in the
coming months.

So often we criticize politicians for not standing up
speaking out. Now it is our responsibility to thank
them for doing the right thing.

With other key refugee and asylum seeker reform bills
up for debate shortly, it's essential we acknowledge
Senator Troeth and Senator Fielding who took a very
courageous move of voting on moral rather than party
lines.

linkwww.getup.org.au/campaign/EndMandatoryDetention&id=756

Having seen the faces, heard the stories and seen the
emotions of those affected by this bill, our politicians
found it in their hearts to end this injustice.

In no small part, the efforts of GetUp members, along
with the support of so many refugee and asylum seeker
campaigners across the nation, made a huge difference
to the passing of this amendment. This change will see
improvements in the lives of hundreds of Australians
who simply want to get on with their lives.

No longer will asylum seekers begin their new life's
in Australia burdened by financial debt as well as
the trauma of "detention debt," a negative legacy
that is now behind us....

What is quite disturbing is Judith's comments that
others in the Liberal Party feel the same way about
this situation as she does, yet implied others were
not compelled to support the bill as they wanted to
maintain their careers in politics..That loved one
says everything about their politics and attitudes
to the greater good of the whole!!

DO not ask what politics is doing for you ask what
you are doing in politics!!

"BLACK PEPPER INVITES YOU TO THE LAUNCH OF
"In the Cleft of the Rock" on -
Sunday 23rd August 2009, 6.30 pm
See further details below

Writings on the Five Books of Moses
by Deborah Masel
CD included with selected readings ~ narrated
by Rachael Kohn, music by Adam Starr

Speakers: Sam Lipski AM and Dr Avivah Zornberg

Here is the heart of the matter, the quintessence
of desire... Here in the stillness of the watch,
in a whirl of desert wind, we sit and learn the
sacred art of traveling.

Deborah Masel?s meditations on the Five Books of
Moses come from deep study, yet they are effusive.
The dialogue between the ancient text and the modern
writer is dramatic.

As she says herself, ?We are brought out to tell the
story, and through the telling we are brought out.?
Her insights lift us to a realization of how we may
live now.

Drawing from a rich imaginative knowledge of midrashic
and hassidic commentary on the Bible, she creates a very
personal mythology of death and life, darkness and light,
void and meaning. Passionately searching, her words draw
together fragments of hidden beauty.

Sustaining the Power Shift  -  @ 08:25:am
We are all acutely aware and alert to the imperative nature
of tackling climate change. Those who are feeling it more
acutely are the generation who will deal with the appalling
neglect and consequences of previous generations actions
today....

GetUp is proactive and proud to invite US to Australia's first

Young people have been at the forefront of almost every
social movement in history, from women getting the vote,
to those who marched and died for civil rights, to outing
dictators worldwide.

In this century, Australia's youth are ready committed and
active and prepared to take genuine responsibility for dealing
with climate change and it's consequences.

We can only solve the climate crisis if we solve it together as
Ben Lee says " we are all in this together"..The generation born
in the last 30 years are alert alarmed and deeply committed to
living the dream of a sustainable life.. They are creating the
future in their own vision...

If you or someone you know is aged, 14-30, click on the link

Getup on the clean emissions of change  -  @ 01:51:pm
"Kevin Rudd announced last week more than a billion
dollars in extra handouts for big polluters, on top
of the more than $7.4 billion already announced and
that we'll have to wait until after the next federal
election, before the Carbon Pollution Reduction
Scheme begins.

The emissions reduction target remains the same a
pathetic 5% unless other countries drag us to the
unlikely new upper limit, 25%."

Meaningful and committed action on climate change
is being whoa fully neglected by this Australian
Federal Government. WE as a whole need to address
this issue NOW!!! Not later Kevin...Right NOW!!

"Experts" and those that are conscious have long
been VERY AWARE and have mentioned...HELLO, that
this delay costs the economy and the environment.

We are ALL very aware of the solution Get ups
survey distributed earlier this year to members/
taxpayers US/concerned citizens, recognized that
"a massive investment in renewable energy' is our
overwhelmingly number one priority.

"GETUP are launching this simple commonsense ask:
"Invest more in renewable energy than you handout
to big polluters"

Click here to sign the petition.

linkwww.getup.org.au/campaign/
ClimateActionNow&id=638?dc=719,86439,2

A massive investment in renewable energy means
we can stimulate the Australian economy & with
a visionary and clear direction will NO DOUBT
create hundreds of thousands of clean energy jobs,
starting right now. We just need to do it Kevin!!

This is the most USEFUL way we can break free
"from the shackles of the dirty coal industries
foul smelling strangle hold, fear based threats
about job loses.

That is WHAT is holding us ALL back KEVIN dear.
Not to mention the wheeling and dealing of so
called "political donations", that just adds
to the problem and cloud this imperative need
to what should be committed to and what isn't
being committed too by this Federal Government...

Getup on the trading scheme

"The emissions trading scheme will now not start
before the next election, but clean energy jobs
are so there for the taking today. We can move
forward and create new ways of building a cleaner
future and build new cleaner jobs...

With so many Australian jobs under threat from
the boogey global financial crisis, the world
can NO LONGER afford NOT to invest in renewable
energy.

This is not rocket science KEVIN dear..YET this
Government's just not taking the message onboard..
So we must ALL tell OUR elected Federal Government
today: By signing the petition above...

To genuinely tackle climate change we ALL need
to wean ourselves off OLD dirty energy that
steals not renews our world..That's what this
emissions trading is for.

More importantly, we need to make renewable
energy a priority and affordable. An investment
in new clean energy technology is the future..
This will indeed be a catalyst for ensuring
new industries that can lead to NEW jobs and
a new future for All of US.

Just take the next brave step on the clean
mountain of change Kevin!!

Vita and the Getup team creating clean
futures together.. It is a must do...

Declaring our human rights  -  @ 12:12:pm
Yesterday we "celebrated the 60th anniversary of
the UN Declaration of Human Rights. We now must
take this opportunity to ensure that human rights
are finally protected in Australia.

It is seriously unbelievable, that Australia is
the only so called democratic country in the world
without formal human rights protections.

linkwww.novemberfilms.com.au/films/a-well-founded-fear

This film is a must see!! This film shows the outrageous
behavior of how a government behaved and the appalling
treatment of refugees in Australia...

Without a human rights mandate, previous governments
have got away with keeping children in detention, with
leaving indigenous people without adequate housing,
health and education services. This has perpetuated
human rights abuses to take place daily in Australia.

These outrageous acts took place in the form of wide
spread false fears apathy bureaucratic bungles and
wide spread acts of discrimination. Adding up to a
lack of respect for the other. Now, finally, the
current Federal Government have at last opened up
the conversation on human rights.

Click here to tell them your vision for an Australian
Human Rights Act that protects the values we all must
hold true to.....

www.getup.org.au/campaign/rights/407

Imagine telling our children we had a hand in creating
the Magna Carta, the US Declaration of Independence or
the French Declaration of the Rights of Man.

We have a chance now to establish Australia's own nation-
defining declaration. This can be made possible if we
all create the future. We must all play a role in
developing this declaration and ACTING ON IT !! This will
not happen without US all having a contribution to the
creation of such a declaration...

Many in the Government are hoping there will be little
community interest in a Human Rights Act for Australia.
We know better over the past three years you and 300,000
other GetUp members have campaigned to stand up for all
our human rights time and time again.

A civilized compassionate democracy shouldn't have to
rely on community outrage to ensure laws and decisions
are right and fair.

We need to find a way to make sure that human rights
are taken into account when decisions are made, so that
WE all treated with respect compassion and love.

Click on the link above to take the next step to revalue
and rebuilding a democracy where our everyday rights are
protected.

The kind of things we worry about on a day to day basis:
job security, giving our kids a good education, paying
rent to avoid getting evicted, getting good health care,
or paying for childcare are all human rights issues that
must be protected under a Human Rights Act.

A strong society is one where we stand up for the whole not
just some... Setting a standard for how we should be treated
in both good times and bad, and honoring those beliefs...

We must lift the benchmark after the 'horror fear and
disrespect of the "Howard years"... Remember he coined
the phrase "the Pacific solution" Does this remind us
of another ego ridden man in the 20 century?

WE must create new more honorable standard that take
all our people with us.

David Hicks has the right to speak out  -  @ 02:54:pm
David Hicks speaks for the first time

G'day I'm David Hicks. I'd like to thank
all GetUp members who helped me get out
of the hell that was Guantanamo Bay...."

David Hicks has chosen to break his silence
by speaking directly to GetUp members watch
his video message to you here:

www.getup.org.au/campaign/WereAfraidNot&id=435

With Guantanamo Bay set to close, and the legality
of its Military Commissions in doubt, David Hicks
is speaking out of concern that the Australian
authorities will impose a new control order that
will prevent him from closing this terrible chapter
of his life and all those that have had his shocking
experience.

Control orders are one of the many worrying features
of Australia's draconian anti-terror laws that are
sacrificing many of our liberties without providing
effective protection for the community in return.

Watch David Hicks' message by clicking on the link
above and join over 20,000 Australians who recognise
this wrong and have signed the petition, calling for
an independent watchdog and review of the laws that
ensures our anti-terror laws are VALID, protect us
all and our rights:

Vita's eye on real democracy  -  @ 05:15:pm
Change and choice are the law of life and love?.
Those who look only to the past or present are
certainly going to miss the future entirely.
F. J Kennedy

'Freedom is what you do with what's been done to
you. Jean-Paul Sartre.

What Get Up is across presently!!!

We are all now able to participate and shake the
cage from the outside in Australian politics.Three
years ago, the GetUp movement launched with a very
BOLD not to mention empowering plan..It was on the
eve of a political party taking control of the "fed"
Senate.. Thousands of everyday citizens sent them
a powerful message: Act for the voters wishes..Not
political strong holds and political ego and sour
grapes....

Current Situation in the Senate
We know something is very wrong with the system when
the Senate cannot vote because someone is a no show
in their day job... That is exactly what happened
last Tuesday in the Senate, that genuinely highlights
the need for us ALL to let the Senate know we are
watching.

For Australian's that gig just got easier thanks
to Project Democracy at GetUp....Bless the GetUp
team for their perseverance and integrity...

They have developed Australia's very now, engaging
if not most empowering democracy tool.. That will
cut through the crap and reduce the barriers we have
faced and endured between our sometimes wayward
representatives and us the voters.

Project Democracy provides a citizen's 'one-stop
shop' to see at a glance what our politicians are
really up to..It is the tool to let them know very
directly our thoughts on what they are (or aren't)
doing.

linkwww.getup.org.au/blogs/view.php?id=1444

Interestingly I could not get the senators page to link
to Vita ...Mmmm who's watching VITA we may well ask???

This week Getup are launching and look see
program with the Senate. We know that politicians
are on their best behavior when they know we're ALL
observing their genuine intent and actions.

Getup have delegated the "VIC: Senator Ryan to
watch and monitor the "secret life" of the senate.
With this in place, we are now in a more favorable
position of ALL working together...We've NOW got
the whole House covered if not surrounded.

Click on the GETUP LINK in Vita's quick links
to see the Project Democracy page and our chosen
Senator shaking the cage of a Senate behaving very
badly..Sign up and follow Senator Ryan and we will
let them know that we, are ALL watching......

The new Senators have just taken their seats in
Parliament, and that is exactly where all the
most important decisions are being made this
year... To make any laws, this Government needs
the support of the Senate.

That is why we want to make it easier for US ALL
to let our Senators know our true concerns and have
them acted and implemented on. Using All the latest
technology, Project Democracy allows Australians to
do just that.

At the click of a mouse one can see what they are ALL
saying in Parliament, what the media are saying about
them, and organise local action in ones area.....

That has us excited and thrilled to the treetops at
VITA.....Senator Ryan is the constituency's human face.
Getup have divided everyone up equally so that working
together we can keep the whole House in order. Get
on board with one of the most exciting initiatives
to hit democracy in the 21st century...

Be part of our future....Play a part in OUR chosen
democracy. Don't ask what the senate is doing for
you ask how you are impacting on the Senate.....

Fruity sustainable futures  -  @ 08:34:am
When one has something very important to say, it is
best practice to say it with consciousness, integrity,
and respect for the other. Some things are best, talked
about with quiet veneration (regard) not volatile vengeance?.

When it comes to the mysteries of our soul or the desires
in ones heart; there is no need to shout from the valley
to the mountaintop. Remember, ones words always have more
affect when we offer them with clarity kindness and speak
softly from our heart felt needs?

GETUP ON CLIMATE CHANGE FRUIT AND TORCHES
To solve the climate crisis, we will need a movement
unprecedented in Australia's history. We must ALL
mobilize this movement,

GetUp has invented a new device to respond to the
climate crisis. We can hold it in one hand. It
combines solar power, a wind-turbine, and....

A LEMON

It's our climate torch, designed exclusively for GetUp
by the creators of the Sydney Olympic torch, and with
our help we'll take it to a hundred towns, cities and
suburbs across Australia - before arriving in Canberra,
where thousands of GetUp members will present it directly
to Parliament.

Click below to get a first glimpse of what it looks like,
and to nominate your town to host it.

www.climatetorch.com/?dc=439,86439,2

No government will ever soar higher than its citizens
demand - and most will sink as low as we allow. Now
more than ever we must demand this government soars
above political spin and vested interests high enough
to provide the climate leadership we need over these
coming months when Australia's response to climate
change will be locked in.

We have a vision for this torch relay. As it travels
around Australia, GetUp members will collect tens of
thousands of submissions to the government's climate
policy consultation: an unprecedented flood of public
opinion.

Our leaders need to hear from us - from your town, city
and suburb - because industry lobbyists will win this
fight if we don't.

Click on the link above to see the torch and
nominate your community for a leg of the first
ever Climate Torch Relay:

After nominating your area you can volunteer to
run the torch, or help organise the torch leg in
your town. We can only bring the torch to your
town if it will be supported on the ground, so
register your help today!

To a renewable future,

The GetUp! team
